Spring has Sprung!

It's as official as the oak blooms falling from the sky....Spring is here! Can I get an ahhhhchooo!?!?!

With the rise in temperatures comes outdoor adventures, family fun events and the hope of a beautiful (but not too hot, thank you very much) upcoming Summer.

Now is the perfect time to check out our Local Sprout, if you haven't already. Every Friday down at the loading dock on the corner of Avenue I and 18th street you will find a variety of vendors selling goods from 9am-2pm. This open air market has been in operation now for a year, and we are so proud to offer home-grown goods including local produce and baked goods, specialty items and so much more!

Starting April 20, stop by the Sprout for lunch! In an effort to encourage the community shop during their working lunch hour, we are excited to offer a small lunch menu to be offered from 11am-1pm. Lunches will be offered by different nonprofit organizations who will provide sandwiches, chips, drinks and other small samplings for a nominal fee. Having lunch available enables the community to eat lunch while shopping for grocery items and specialty items and treats!

If you are a nonprofit organization and a member of the Hondo Area Chamber of Commerce, call us! We'd love to add you to our Friday "lunch crew"!

Another event fun for the whole family is our Tour of Vacant Buildings coming up April 28. In an effort to grow our community by filling vacant buildings, creating awareness and beautifying our community, the Tour of Vacant Buildings is a great way for the community to look at possible retail/business locations in a relaxed way.

If you've ever wondered what the inside of some of our downtown buildings look like, but never got the chance to explore, the Tour is a great way to get a peak at some of the beauty and architecture that otherwise may not be seen.

Tour packets and maps will be available in our office beginning April 23. Inside the packet you will find each location's specs, pictures, a map, and a copy of the city ordinances. A self guided tour, the Tour of Vacant Buildings runs from 10am-2pm. At each location you will have the chance to speak to the realtor or the owner if you have further interests.

Are you in need of a night out shopping?! We've got your cure! Grab your friends and head into Hondo for the Cindo de Mayo Shop Hop on Friday, May 4.

8 merchants including 2 Bizzy B'z, Cross Connections, Hometown Vintage Antiques, J. June, MainStreet Mercantile, Sorellas Boutique and Timeless Treasures will keep their doors open until 9pm offering special discounts, refreshments, door prizes and so much more!

Be sure to grab a flyer at any of the participating businesses and get it signed by ALL the businesses for a chance to win a beautiful gift basket valued at $225.
